Okay, let's be real for a sec. Where do you think the best place to sell earrings is? A fancy boutique? A high-end jewelry store? Nope. Try comic conventions! I recently went to Geek'd Con in Shreveport and let me tell you, it was cooler than a cucumber in a freezer.
What's Geek'd Con?
Now, Geek'd Con may not be as famous as, let's say, the Statue of Liberty, but it's definitely on the rise. This little con is only three years old, still practically a baby, but don't let that fool you. It's got all the fun and excitement of a grown-up con!
I found out about Geek'd Con by accident, just surfing the web (like a pro surfer, only less wet). But then, one of our followers (let's call her Super Kenzie) pinged us on Instagram. She had seen us at Wizard World New Orleans, and was wondering if we'd be at Geek'd Con. It was like running into an old friend on a roller coaster. Unexpected, but super fun!
Balloons, Heat, and a Last-Minute Decision
Around this time, I had been doing a bunch of balloon festivals. And let me tell you, being outside in the heat all day can make you feel like a grilled cheese sandwich. So, I thought, why not try something new and give Geek'd Con a shot? I'm not the best at planning things out (my calendar usually looks like a game of tic-tac-toe), but I was determined to make it happen.
I made a call, crossed my fingers, and hoped for the best. The first response was a bit like a raincloud on a sunny day. No-go this year, but try again next time. But I didn't give up hope! I told them if anyone dropped out, I was ready to swoop in like a superhero.
A Road Trip to Remember
You won't believe what happened next. Within an hour, I got a call back. There was a commercial booth up for grabs, and it had my name written all over it! So, two days later, with my trusty Chevy Volt packed to the brim, a cooler full of caffeine that would keep me awake for days, and tons of new geeky earrings to sell, I was on my way to Shreveport, LA.
Selling earrings at Geek'd Con was more fun than a barrel of monkeys playing video games. I can't wait to see what other exciting places and events are out there for us to explore.
